I ordered a crapton of exhaust parts today. There be welding in my future.
V1: Stock cat, giant dangly Borla muffler
Okay sound, kind of loud but bearable, very janky and looked like garbage
V2: Stock cat, small turbo muffler tucked in neatly
Super quiet. Fun sucking. Some exhaust fumes due to turndown location. Crazy 180 degree bend before muffler.
V3: Catless test pipe, small turbo muffler tucked in neatly
Holy [bleep] that’s loud. 110+db. Exhaust fumes galore via turndown location. Crazy 180 degree bend before muffler.
V4: Replaced test pipe with 4 inch glasspack , small turbo muffler tucked in neatly
Still loud (over 100db). Exhaust fumes galore via turndown location. Crazy 180 degree bend before muffler.
V5: I ordered some actual parts. Magnaflow metallic substrate cat, Flowmaster Super HP-2 muffler, Borla resonated exhaust tip.
I’m excited to give this setup a try. It will allow me to get the exhaust out the back without a 180 degree bend. The small muffler and glasspack have always produced a pretty raspy sound. There’s not a lot of room under the car, but this setup should tuck under the car nicely, be relatively straight, and dump the exhaust into cleaner air. I’ll likely clamp the final pipe and do a couple test runs to figure out optimal placement. I’m going to put the muffler on a section with a normal clamp on either end so that I can swap in a much quieter muffler for taking the car to L aguna Seca .
This guy is running an HP-2 with a resonated test pipe and no cat. I suspect it will be quieter with the cat and resonated tip.

How are you making the bends?

I ordered the angles that I need. Most 15-18 degree bends snaking their way through.
